Litepaper

A barrel-rolling skill game where every run ends in one number, and where the best numbers can be posted to a public, ownerless run book on Robinhood Chain.

Built in the open. Track and arena numbers are tuned with playtests; every change is posted on X and written into this page.

1. Summary

Barlo is a short-session skill game: you steer a barrel that keeps its momentum through timed tracks, a survival ring and a turning arena. Results stay in your browser, and any wallet can post its best to BarloRollBook, a small ownerless contract on Robinhood Chain that keeps all-time and weekly boards. There is nothing to buy to play and nothing to win; the boards are for skill and bragging rights.

2. Why a barrel

A barrel is the simplest interesting body to steer. It cannot stop on a coin, it drifts out of turns and it bounces off things in a way everyone already understands. That gives a game with one input (push in a direction) and a lot of depth: lines through corners, when to brake by turning, how to use a bumper instead of fearing it.

Short runs fit a phone in a queue as well as a keyboard at a desk, and a single number per run makes a fair board possible.

3. Game design

Three modes share one physics model:

  • Roll Rush: race through gates to a finish line, 4 tracks opened in order. Hazards: cones, bumpers, rolling logs, boost pads, slick patches, holes (1.5 s penalty).
  • Bumper Ring: survive on a round ring against bot waves of up to 6; 150 points for every bot you bump off.
  • Obstacle Spiral: survive on a turning arena that speeds up, with sweeping spokes, riding bumpers and holes; 50 points per spark.

Around them sit the garage (cosmetic looks and picture export) and the player profile (bests, history, achievements).

4. The physics

Each barrel is a circle with velocity. Input adds acceleration (up to 760 px/s²) toward a speed cap (360 px/s), and friction pulls the velocity toward the floor's own motion, which is zero on still ground and a turning flow on the spiral. Walls reflect the speed into the wall with some loss; bumpers return more than they receive; barrels exchange momentum by mass.

Fixed 120 steps per second, no randomness in Roll Rush, a seed per run in the arenas: the same inputs give the same run on any device.

5. The run book

BarloRollBook stores, per (mode, track), the best value of each wallet twice: all time, and for the current week. A post is accepted only if it improves at least one of them; each accepted post emits an event and counts toward the wallet's total. Leaderboards are read from the contract's views, so anyone can rebuild them.

It has no owner, no admin key, no fee, no pause and no upgrade path. It accepts no ETH and holds no tokens. It is live on Robinhood Chain.

6. Weekly cups

Weeks start on Monday 00:00 UTC, counted from a fixed start in the contract, so every reader agrees on the current cup. A new week means an empty board for every track, while all-time bests stay. One Roll Rush track is the headline each week. There is no entry fee, no wager and no prize.

7. Fair play and its limits

Results are self-reported. The contract cannot watch a browser game, so a posted time proves who posted it and when, never that it was played. We say this on every screen that posts.

What the book does enforce: valid modes and tracks, sane value ranges (Roll Rush 3 s to 30 min, scores 1 to 1,000,000) and only improvements. What would make results checkable later (signed replays, server checks) is not part of this preview.

8. Architecture

  • Browser game: TypeScript engine with no drawing code, tested headless; a canvas renderer on top.
  • Website: server-rendered pages, a read-only relay for chain reads with method and address allowlists and rate limits.
  • Wallet: browser wallets found by EIP-6963, WalletConnect as an option; every transaction is dry-run first and signed by the player.
  • Contract: one Solidity contract, unit, fuzz and invariant tests, a deployment checker that compares on-chain bytecode with the build. Source on the docs page.

9. $BARLO

$BARLO is the community token of the project, launching on Pons. The game does not need it. Planned uses, only if they are really built: cosmetic credits, access to community events, creative features such as shared tracks. It carries no promised value, no reward and no claim on anything.

10. Status

  • Built: three modes, 4 tracks, garage, profile, achievements, wallet connect, practice book.
  • Next: deploy the run book, launch $BARLO.
  • Planned: more tracks and arenas, online multiplayer, the token uses above.

11. What this is not

Not a casino, not a betting game and not an investment. No part of Barlo pays out for a score, and nothing here is financial advice.
